Residential dog and puppy training. For the more problematic dog, Hollybarn Dog and Puppy Training Ireland offer a much more personal approach to residential dog and puppy training courses. Our courses comprise of a minimum two week residential stay for your dog or puppy.

Courses are run at Emma's house in Claremorris in rural Co Mayo and rather than your dog living in a kennel during their stay with us they live in a normal household environment and will be treated as a pet and part of the family rather than the more regimental kennel and boarding approach to residential training. We do not have any kennels on our property.

We are excited to be able to offer our residential training courses with the whole emphasis being on providing individual care and attention to your dog’s training and behaviour requirements. And don't worry, none of our training techniques employ the use of food treats as the reward mechanism so no more carrying around pockets full of dog treats.

We have a one acre play, exercise and training area. Your dog will be trained, exercised and played with every day of his or her stay with us. Our aim is to make it a constructive and fun experience for them with as little distress from being away from home as possible.

Residential dog and puppy training. We only take one dog or puppy for residential training at a time. This means we can concentrate on working with your pet and his or her training and behaviour issues. If you have two or more dogs living together and would like residential training for them both at the same time. We will take more than one dog from one owner.

During your dogs stay the following topics will be covered as standard. We use positive re-inforcement techniques but do not use food as the reward.

  • Sit to have a lead put on and leave the house without any fuss
  • Walk calmly on a Lead, Gentle Leader or Halti head collar
  • Play biting, Separation Anxiety
  • Sit, Lie, Stay and Come
  • Automatic Sit, Lie at a distance
  • Stop jumping on people and furniture
  • Socialisation with other dogs and people

Our residential training can be fully tailored to your requirements so if there is anything that you specifically want your dog or puppy to learn or for us to address then please talk to us. We are happy to discuss ANY residential training or behaviour requirements you may have.

Our goal at Hollybarn Dog and Puppy Training Ireland is to teach you and your family how to train and interact with your dog so you can have the pet you always wanted and thats why each residential course is followed by a one to one training session in your own home so we can then teach you what your dog has learned during their stay with us. This session is a vital part of the handover process.

Remember if you don't need residential training we also offer professional, one to one, veterinary recommended dog and puppy training and behaviour courses, classes and sessions with a dog trainer and behaviourist in your own home as well as our residential training, dog kennels and boarding.

With a little help, you and your dog or puppy can qualify top of the class in school and be top dog at last - and remember school was never as much fun as this.

Don't worry, we don't just cover the west of Ireland we provide one to one dog training and behaviour sessions in Mayo, Galway, Clare, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim, Longford, Cavan Westmeath, Offaly, Dublin, Greater Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow.
